A cold late September breeze blew in as my mom dropped me off by the lake. I didn't know what was worse. The super cold breeze or the fact it was gonna rain. Either way, the downpour came. Just fantastic. I must be a lucky girl because as soon as it began to rain, Zack wrapped an arm around my stomach and pulled me under his umbrella.
"You'll get sick standing in the rain," he whispered into my ear. We held hands and ran into a small house close by. He closed his umbrella when we got inside. "I really hoped it wouldn't rain."
"Good luck on that," I replied. We laughed together and somehow we found our lips locked together. His fingers were gentle on my chin. We were lost together holding each other. We pulled our lips apart, and I pressed my ear against his chest. Thu-thump, Thu-thump. Such a calm heartbeat. Eventually the rain let up to a small drizzle. Zack pulled away and took my hand.
"This is my family's 'hideaway house'," Zack said, "We used to come here every weekend and holiday. So many of my memories were made here." He took me out the back door. There was a long gravel pathway. The trees were like a tall roof overhead. For the longest time, we just walked with occasional raindrops dripping on top of our heads.
The path began going up. Almost like a steep cliff. Zack helped me and pulled me up to the top. The trees lessened and they began to look like a big doorway, letting in a blinding sunlight. My eyes focused to a sight that many people only see in paintings.
